※ Personal information is collected solely for paper submission and operation of the 16th International Symposium of Science Museums (ISSM 2026) and will be destroyed upon the conclusion of the conference.

General Principles

  • Types of manuscripts eligible for submission to the ISSM Conference include research papers, review papers, research notes, discussions, data materials, book reviews, reports, introductions, and case studies that align with the conference theme and relate to the development of science museums.
  • Submitted papers must be original works that have not been previously published in other domestic or international academic journals or books.
  • Manuscripts prepared in accordance with the submission guidelines must be submitted through the online submission system as either an original HWP file or a PDF file.
  • Authors must provide the title of the manuscript in English, write their name in Roman characters, attach an abstract of no more than 5 lines, and include Keywords in Korean or English below the abstract.
  • Only papers submitted by the deadline will be reviewed. Even if submitted on time, manuscripts that do not adhere to the format and submission guidelines may be excluded from the evaluation process.
  • Papers submitted to the conference will not be returned.
  • Outstanding papers (award-winning works) will be compiled into an electronic conference proceedings e-book (PDF) and published on both the ISSM website board and the National Science Museum website.

Main Text

  • Manuscripts may contain text, special characters, tables, and figures, and must be written in either Korean or English.
  • The manuscript should be structured in the following order: Introduction, Research Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, References, and Author Contributions. However, the structure may vary for non-quantitative research.
  • When Chinese characters are necessary, they should be written alongside the text, e.g., '국제과학관(國際科學館)'. For proper nouns, Chinese characters should be used only upon first mention, followed by Korean thereafter if it causes no ambiguity.
  • Proper nouns, including names of people and geographical locations, should be written in their original language.

Footnotes

  • As a general rule, all citations and annotations must be presented as footnotes.
  • Footnotes should be used exclusively for supplementary content or explanations that are difficult to integrate into the main text; using footnotes solely to state data sources or bibliographic references should be avoided.
  • Footnotes should be indicated by a sequential superscript number at the top left of the corresponding sentence or word, with the footnote content detailed at the bottom of the page.

References

  • All book titles and articles must be cited according to the following general examples. Special cases, such as edited volumes or translations, must follow the specific guidelines provided below. The Standerd citation for titles and articles is as follows:
  • Standard Citation Order for Eastern Literature: Author, Book Title, Publisher, Year of Publication, Page Numbers.e.g., Moon Jung-yang, Hydraulic Technology and Discourse in the Late Joseon Dynasty, Jipmoondang, 2000, p. 10.

Author Contributions

  • Listed authors (participants) must be individuals who have made substantial contributions to the preparation of the manuscript; those who participated merely in simple review or proofreading are excluded.
  • The specific roles and contributions of each author in preparing the manuscript must be explicitly stated.
